Now of course the relationship was “complex”, though it was the wife who hit her husband with a pool cue. And of course Domestic Violence and supposed years of “coercive control” will be the defence offered in the inevitable appeal. No doubt led by Harriet Wistrich (barrister partner of the far from “silenced” Julie Bindel). A familiar tale of a woman murdering her partner with a knife to the heart, usually when he’s asleep or resting. And the inevitable defence that somehow he deserved it. I’d put money on an appeal on the grounds of diminished responsibility caused by “coercive control”. Perhaps a moment to remember that one man a week is murdered by his wife or partner.
