From time to time we plan to promote stores in Bedford we particularly like. Top of my personal list, as a lifelong bibliophile, is The Eagle Bookshop on St. Peter’s Street. This link will give you a good sense of the store and includes a tour video (3:37), also on YouTube, here.
I popped into the store earlier today and emerged (as always) with a number of books including a bound copy of Illustrated London News, editions covering July – December 1957, which includes my birthday. It is by far the heaviest book I’ve ever bought, and was a bargain at £20.00. I also snapped up a bound copy of Punch, July – December 1930 (£15.00). In the antiquarian bargains section there are bound copies of Punch dating back as far as the 1860s, for £5.00 (all the books in that section are priced at £5.00).
If you’re a book lover, be sure to visit and support this wonderful store. They have in stock a huge numbers of secondhand books, many selling at very modest prices. You can also order new books from the store, here.
The staff couldn’t be more welcoming, informed, or helpful.
