As is often the case the local media cover “national” stories more accurately. In this case the role “gender stereotypes” play in cases such as Star Hobson. Of course the stereotype is the familiar one that women can always be believed, especially mothers.
Always a problem in the social work profession, reflecting the wider society, this was exacerbated by training in “anti-oppressive practice” aka feminism. Thus it is we have a stream of social workers, these days usually graduates with little life experience due to their youth, easily hoodwinked by women concealing their abuse or that of their partners; because of course, whereas a man must be instantly considered “oppressive”; women are always honest victims.
